March Against Police Violence

My favorite picture is called “March Against Police Violence”. This was taken by John J. Kim (a professional photographer who works for The Chicago Tribune) since November 25, 2015. In addition, the photograph was awarded with the 3rd prize Of category: Contemporary Issues of the World Press Photo 2016.

The photograph shows Lamon Reccord watching a policeman during a march against racial violence. The march was unleashed after the murder of Laquan McDonald (a 17 year old boy) who was killed by a Chicago city policeman. The youth was shot 16 times by the officer, which caused the annoyance of the black population of the United States, who protested several times throughout that year.

I really like this photograph, because it exposes the abuse of power executed by the police in ethnic minorities. It reminds me of the case of Chile, where the students and Mapuches are beaten by the police without any compassion.

The photograph shows the spectator an important reflection of the contemporary times. It shows the violence that the world currently has.

Christmas

Christmas is celebrated on December 25th and is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.

The origins may vary according to the holiday. The date of Jesus Christ birth is not recorded in the bible, December 25th has been significant in ancient people celebrating during the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere. This celebration has the purpose to allow conversion of pagan people.

I like Christmas because I can spend time with my family. That day I get up early to help my mother to cook. In the afternoon we manage to go to church and participate of the Eucharist. In the evening we all gather at the table to eat the Christmas dinner, after eating we gather next to the Christmas tree to open the presents.

I like everything that actually happens at Christmas: the dinner, go to church and open presents. But the thing that I like the most  is that I spend time with my beloved ones.

For me, Christmas is more than a day to receive presents. The real sense is to share and spread love. That is the best gift you can give to someone you love.
